Ch. 4 – The Faith

Part II: The Words & The Prayers
The Life of The Cross,  © 2008, Cathy Scott

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. (Psalm 130:5)

89Your word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth and it endures. (Psalm 119:89-90)

6By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. (Psalm 33:6)

9For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. (Psalm 33:9)

3By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. (Hebrews 11:3)

18So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:18)

18No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. (John 1:18)

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:1-5)

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

12In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. (Ephesians 3:12)

20He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 21Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God. (1 Peter 1:20-21)

13Be on your guard:  stand firm in the faith, be courageous; be strong. 14Do everything in love. (1 Corinthians 16:13-14)

18For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. (1 Peter 3:18)

21God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

4We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. (Romans 6:4)

3His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. (2 Peter 1:3-4)

1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:1-2)

27Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith. 28For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. (Romans 4:27-28)

4You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. 5For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. (Galatians 5:4-5)

22“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:22-24)

2FFixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. (Hebrews 12:2-3)

20For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. (2 Corinthians 1:20)

5We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5)

6I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ. (Philemon 6)

1As for other matters, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. 2And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not every-one has faith. 3But, the Lord is faithful and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. (2 Thessalonians 3:1-3)

13I can do all this through him who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13)

7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. (2 Timothy 4:7-8)

13It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you to himself. (2 Corinthians 4:13-14)

27Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. (Hebrews 9:27)

3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith –of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire –may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls. (1 Peter 1:3-9)

1With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. (2 Thessalonians 1:11)

7Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you.  Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. (Hebrews 13:7)

6So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. (Colossians 2:6-7)

1“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.” (John 14:1)

29Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. (Psalm 118:29)

The only thing that counts
is faith expressing itself through love.
(Galatians 5:6)

PRAYER OF FAITH

Father, as I love because You first loved me, so too do I have faith because You first showed Your faithfulness. I believe because You are faithful; You are not faithful because I believe. When You speak, Your words deliver Truth. You are Truth as You are love. I know that You sent Your Son in both Truth and love to save me, and that by faith in Him, I have received complete salvation, deliverance and healing. Through Him, You defeated sin and death for each of us who believe. My Redeemer lives; therefore, so too do I. When I deserved nothing good from You, You gave me the best and most precious gift that You had to offer. Then You gave me the gift of faith that enabled me to believe in the salvation that You provided. My faith is the result of Your goodness and mercy. I owe its existence to Your grace, not to anything that I have done. I pray that You will help me to act in boldness upon my faith according to Your will. May I live my life full of the faith that You have given me so that I may honor You. May I remain faithful to Your service in all that I think and say and do, and may my faith continue to grow by Your grace.
