The Bible’s Final Words
on Repenting

A word search on Biblegateway of the 2011 NIV translation of the Holy Bible reveals that the word repent appears seventy-eight times in all of Scripture. Fifty-four of those times are in the New Testament, and of those fifty-four, ten are in the final book of the Bible: The Book of Revelation. While in some of those ten verses, God is addressing sinners, in others He is straightforwardly addressing saints in the churches.

To repent is an act of humble submission that realigns our wrong thinking with God’s perfect knowledge. It is an attitude that gratefully says, “You’re right and I’m not, God. So thank you, God, for caring for me, for correcting my thinking to bring us closer together in greater agreement forever.”

So now, in reading those ten verses that are listed below, try to imagine our God, whose goodness is so great that He wants that same kind of relationship with each one of His children in the same kind of right way forever. That is why, in the Book of Revelation that tells of the end times that God assures us are coming, the word repent is used more times than in any other single book of the Bible.

I may not know much, but I do know this:  Keep on repenting; you’ll never regret that you did.
